My Heart, His Home

“That Christ will be more and more at home in your heart.” Ephesians 3:17 NLT

Welcome Jesus to be at home in your heart, and live in your life as though it were His own.

My thoughts today are about “my heart, His home.”

My wife, Gayle, has the most amazing gift of hospitality. She will thoughtfully prepare all the things to make a friend’s visit to our home the most special of treats, and when they arrive finding fresh flowers, their favorite cold drinks, fresh fruit, and special snacks chosen just to please them; they feel completely welcomed and accepted. It is all about them! She makes every effort because she values them and wants them to feel right at home.

Think of friends where you have visited more than briefly. Some may take such pains to entertain and constantly fuss over you, that you feel some discomfort at interrupting their everyday schedules and taking so much of their time. Another may unknowingly leave you so much on your own while they continue busily with their own interests and routines, that you feel like no one special. But cherish the friends who so graciously welcome and put you at ease so that you feel right at home. As importantly, become a friend like that to others.

Consider the spiritual application of this. Ever wonder what Jesus must feel when a person invites Him into their heart and life, but never allows Him to be fully at home there? Is He a just a guest, restricted to politely respecting a place not His own? Do you allow the Lord only polite and brief visits, so as not to impose upon your plans or complicate your schedule?

Here’s what the Bible promises you when your heart becomes His home. “Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until that day when our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23 NLT. Do you invite Jesus to truly become a contributing part of your daily life, including Him in your discussions, decisions, and plans? Do you seek His advice and welcome His wisdom? Is Jesus welcomed to make Himself at home, and live in your life as though it were His own?

My prayer for you today is: make your heart His home, and let your life be only about Him!
