Making The Tough Call

“The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.” Psalm 118:6 NKJV

“Make it your decision and determination to be sure that you are on the Lord’s side!”

My thoughts today are about “making the tough call.”

People who make a difference are those folk who are courageous enough to take positions they truly believe are the right thing to do, even though unpopular. Don’t choose a contrary opinion just to be contrary, but neither should you simply “go along to get along.” And think of it this way; why would anyone not want to be a difference-maker? That is unlike those who first have to broadly survey what will be most widely acceptable to others, and then form or modify their opinions accordingly.

Life demands that you do what you ought to do when the time requires. “Anyone then, who knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.” James 4:17 NIV. Is there risk in doing so? Of course there is! People may ridicule or denounce you, and even your friends may misunderstand you. I think that in each moment that holds potential for good, there is greater risk in your not doing so. Is there reward in doing so? You bet there is! You will be honored by God and have influence for good with those less willing to make the tough calls.

Pleasing God is your top priority, not popularity. Usually righteousness seems a minority opinion. The Bible instructs, “Not . . as men pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. And whatever you do, do it heartily as unto the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord God.” Colossians 3:22-24 NKJV.

Keep your eyes on the One to whom you will ultimately give an account. “Do you not know, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, you are servants of whom you obey.” Romans 6:16. Choose wisely to whom you give yourself to serve?

Making the tough call reflects character. Doing what’s right even when that seems unpopular or misunderstood displays integrity, character, and moral authority. Never be willing to live without those Godly qualities evident in your life. The key to your confidence that “the Lord is on my side,” comes out of your decision and determination to make sure that you are on the Lord’s side!

My prayer for you today is: always know the right side from the wrong side.
