Whatever

“Live purposefully.” Ephesians 5:15 Amplified Bible

“Time may be the most valuable commodity you have; use it well and wisely.”

My thoughts today are about “whatever.”

Some years ago, I had a season when I succumbed to the blahs. You know what that is – when nothing seems important enough to fully engage you. When someone asks what you want to do or where you want to go, and your answer is the single word, “Whatever,” you have the blahs. When you have no purpose, anything seems good enough.

We just returned from vacation – with time spent visiting good friends, while enjoying lots of laughter and leisure with little or no schedules. Sometimes it is fun just to be “off the clock,” wandering and sightseeing with nowhere particular to go, no schedule to keep. The key is that this works well at times, but is not intended all the time! What can be a fun change of pace once in a while is not beneficial as a lifestyle.

You have to get the proportions right. That’s called balance – a bit of rest, a bit of exertion, a bit of play, a bit of work. Those are not best in equal measure. God established the rhythm of life with work and rest in the Sabbath principle. Read Deuteronomy 5:13-14 NLT. Life is too precious to be wasted. Time may be the most valuable commodity you will ever have; use it well and wisely.

What you do with your time is what you are trading your life for everyday; make it worthwhile. The Bible says, “Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people), making the most of the time (buying up each opportunity) . . understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:15-17 Amplified.

You can best live purposefully when you understand some measure of the will of God for your day, and your life. You don’t decide God’s will; you discover it. “Offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God . . then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:1-2 NIV.

Without a sense of purpose you will be without direction, which clouds your focus, and unclear focus diminishes anticipation. Your purpose is found in God’s will, not your own. The casual attitude of “whatever” is not appropriate for matters of the will of God and your life’s ppurpose. Being purposeful in your intentions and ditrection will take you only so far. You may achieve success through your plans and resolve, but you find real satisfaction in your success only in the center of God’s will. “Stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.” Colossians 4:13 NIV.

My prayer for you today is that you find God’s purpose for your life and do that.
