God’s Right Hand

The order or circumstance of your birth does not determine your blessing from God’s hand.

“I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 NIV.

Everyone needs a helping hand occasionally. There will be times and situations when you need more than even the most helpful friend can supply. However, there is never a circumstance or need that exceeds God’s ability and provision. Imagine living every day with the unshakable confidence that, “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.” Deuteronomy 33:27 NIV. I am greatly encouraged today by this Scripture, “I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Read Isaiah 41:10-13 NIV. As I read that Bible verse today, I considered the frequent metaphor of “God’s right hand” in a surprising number of Old and New Testament references.

In the Hebrew culture, the “right hand” was especially significant. “You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 16:11 NKJV. That sounds like a place where I want to live daily. Among other things, the “right hand” is a metaphor for power and authority, the place of honor, and the means of impartation of blessing and anointing.

The “right hand” of power and authority: “Jesus replied, ‘In the future you will see Me, the Son of Man, sitting at God’s right hand in the place of power and coming back on the clouds of heaven.’ . . Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand – with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.” Matthew 26:64 NLT/1 Peter 3:22 NIV. See Psalm 20:6-7 NKJV.

The “right hand” of honor and exaltation: “When the Son of Man comes in His glory . . He will separate [the nations] one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you . .” Matt 25:31-34 NKJV.

The ‘right hand” of blessing and anointing: “Joseph took Ephraim toward Israel’s left hand and Manasseh toward Israel’s right hand, and brought them close to [Jacob]. But Israel reached out his right hand and put it on Ephraim’s head, though he was the younger, and crossing his arms, he put his left hand on Manasseh’s head, even though Manasseh was the firstborn.” Genesis 48:13-14 NIV. For someone in particular, these words are personally significant, “The order or circumstance of your birth does not determine your blessing from God’s hand.” All blessing is in His hand to give to those in whom He delights. “Since you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.” Colossians 3:1 NIV.

My prayer for you today is that you will receive and enjoy every blessing from God’s hands.
