Good News

13 You will trample upon lions and cobras;
    you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!

14 The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.
    I will protect those who trust in my name.
15 When they call on me, I will answer;
    I will be with them in trouble.
    I will rescue and honor them.
16 I will reward them with a long life
    and give them my salvation.”  91:13-16 NLT

My thoughts today are about, “Good News.”

Today, we conclude our devotional study of this magnificent Psalm 91. I hope you have been encouraged as much as I have enjoyed sharing my devotional thoughts with you. In these final verses, I first notice a profound truth. Yours and my victory are ultimately assured.

However dangerous, determined, or clever your foe, God will oppose him and will always be for you and with you. Paul was supremely confident. 38”For I am convinced that neither death nor life . . the present nor the future, nor any powers . .39nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God . .” Read Romans 8:37-39 NIV.

In this closing passage of Psalm 91, notice God’s assurance of your dominating victory over lions and serpents. The good news is this.

13 You will – trample upon lions and cobras;
you will –
crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!

Lions are ferocious, with overpowering strength. Remember Daniel? He was no match for the lions. But the lions were no match for Daniel’s God. Serpents are cunning and deadly. But both are no match for our God. “Stay alert! Watch for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 NLT.

Serpents are cunning. They enjoy natural camouflage with their surroundings, allowing them to hide and strike viciously without warning. On our own, you and I would be no match for their strength and violence. The Bible is clear. 13You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet! 14The Lord says, I will protect those who trust in My name.” Psalm 91:13-14.

14 The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.
I will protect those who trust in my name.
15 When they call on me,
I will answer;
I will be with them in trouble.
I will rescue and honor them.
16 I will reward them with a long life
and give them my salvation.”
Psalm 91:15-16

Did you notice that the prior verses were about what you and I can do? Now, the conversation changes to what God will do. When you do what God says you can do, God will do what only He can do. That is good news.

The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love Me. I will protect those who trust Me. I will answer those who call on Me. I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with long life. I will give them My salvation.

Paul reasoned, 31“If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all – how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?” Romans 8:31-32 NIV. I say amen and hallelujah to my God’s unfailing promises.

When You truly know God’s character and power and your experience persuades you what God will and can do, you will live with courage and confidence.

My prayer for you today is to live confidently with assurance and boldness.
